Resolve GES-C01 versus GES-C02
Snowflake’s current catalogue and Gen AI programme page identify GES-C02. Headlines referring to GES-C01 should therefore be treated as older preparation references. This guide does not invent a retirement date or a line-by-line historical syllabus delta without the corresponding official historical outline.
To compare a C01 course with current preparation, place its objectives beside the current C02 guide and mark covered, changed and missing areas. The present programme explicitly includes Cortex capabilities, model-related work and document-processing pipelines. A course title alone cannot establish that all current objectives are covered.
Decide whether the specialty fits your experience
Snowflake describes a candidate with enterprise Gen AI experience on Snowflake and assumes data-engineering and SQL knowledge, with Python proficiency also useful. Treat this as a signal about expected practical depth rather than a promise that a short introductory AI course is sufficient.
The route may suit engineers building governed AI features within a Snowflake environment. If your gap is basic data loading, permissions or SQL, establish that foundation first. Career value depends on the work your target role uses, not a claim that the specialty automatically creates an advanced AI career.
Build a grounded document-answering exercise
Use invented policy documents in a permitted training account. Define a user question, the evidence needed and the behaviour when the source does not contain the answer. Test retrieval separately from generation so you can identify whether a failure comes from finding the wrong passage or producing an unsupported response.
Include conflicting versions and a document that the test user should not access. Verify the actual permission boundary rather than assuming that an assistant interface protects everything underneath. Record source identifiers so a reviewer can trace an answer to the relevant evidence.
Connect Cortex concepts with evaluation
Snowflake’s AI documentation distinguishes Cortex features using large language models from facilities for developing custom models. Learn what a chosen feature does before placing it in an architecture. A function call that returns fluent text is not proof that the output is correct for the intended task.
Create an evaluation set containing ordinary, ambiguous and unanswerable questions. Score factual support, completeness, safe refusal and operating cost separately. Change one component at a time and retain the results. This gives you a defensible comparison rather than a subjective impression that one model sounds better.
Study document and model workflows deliberately
The current GES-C02 page explicitly includes document-processing pipelines and work involving Snowpark Container Services and Model Registry. Use the current guide to establish the required depth. Do not assume that an SQL-only Cortex demonstration covers the entire specialty.
For a document pipeline, test extraction quality on different invented layouts and record downstream effects of a missing field. For model-related learning, document inputs, deployment assumptions and evaluation evidence. Keep exercises bounded by available account permissions and current feature availability.
Turn preparation into an operational case
Prepare a short architecture note covering data, access, evaluation, monitoring and ownership. Define who can approve a model or prompt change and what regression tests must pass. Explain how the team would detect worsening answers after a feature update.
Before booking, verify the current guide, programme policies and appointment details. Present the credential as a specialty in a particular platform, supported by a practical project. Keep learning when the platform changes; no single exam version can guarantee permanent expertise in generative AI.
