Start with the actual foundation scope
Informatica lists AI Agent Engineering Foundation Certification in its Foundation Series. The public description covers enterprise AI agents, IDMC Agent Engineering services and connections to other ecosystems. It does not publish a detailed security-examination blueprint on that page. Treat security exercises here as practical preparation, not a claim that every named control is an assessed objective.
Use the official registration link to confirm access, course requirements and the award issued. Avoid borrowing assessment details from iPaaS or another foundation course. A foundation credential can introduce an architectural conversation; it does not by itself authorise the holder to approve a production security design or declare regulatory compliance.
Draw the agent’s authority boundary
For an original case, design a fictional purchasing assistant that finds supplier information and prepares a draft purchase request. Separate read operations from actions that change a business system. State which data it can access and which person must approve a purchase before any commitment is created.
Write the intended user, allowed inputs, connected systems and permitted outputs. Give every tool a clear purpose and owner. An agent that can discover a supplier need not automatically have permission to alter banking details. Keep authority narrow enough that a mistaken instruction has a bounded consequence and a clear review path.
Make trusted data an explicit dependency
Informatica’s agent engineering framework combines data management, integration and governance. Apply that idea by recording where supplier identity, contract status and purchasing limits originate. Define how conflicting or stale records will be handled before the assistant prepares a recommendation.
Create a test record in which two suppliers have similar names but different identifiers. The assistant should preserve the distinction and request clarification when necessary. A generated explanation should not substitute for authoritative identity matching. Record the source and freshness of the facts used so a reviewer can understand the basis of a draft request.
Review tool contracts and failure handling
Specify a tool request and response for checking an approved supplier. Include the identifier, allowed fields, success condition and error result. Describe what the agent should do when the service times out or returns incomplete information. A missing response must not be interpreted as approval.
For a write operation, consider duplicate requests, interrupted execution and uncertain completion. Establish how the receiving system or workflow prevents an accidental repeated purchase. Record what evidence is available to determine whether an action completed. These integration questions matter as much as the wording of the model’s instructions.
Test an instruction attack and restricted data request
Create a synthetic supplier document containing an instruction to reveal internal purchasing limits. Treat the document as untrusted business content. Write the expected behaviour: use relevant supplier facts while refusing to expand access or execute the embedded instruction. Test this expectation in an authorised environment if one is available.
Also test a user requesting information outside their role. Define how identity and permissions are enforced by the application and connected systems rather than relying entirely on a model to infer authority from conversational wording. Keep an audit trail that is useful for investigation without unnecessarily duplicating confidential data.
Explain the business case and residual risk
Prepare a short evidence pack containing the data map, tool contracts, approval route and failure tests. Explain where the design could reduce repetitive research or improve consistency, and what would need measurement to establish the benefit. Include the effort required for ongoing data ownership and exception review.
For foundation preparation, connect each course concept to that evidence and identify any implementation gap that requires further study. Describe a security review as an analysis with assumptions, not proof that every attack is prevented. The career value comes from discussing useful enterprise automation together with the controls, people and dependencies required to operate it responsibly.
