Read your programme rules alongside OnVUE
Pearson VUE’s OnVUE requirements provide a general baseline, while the examination programme can set specific conditions and exceptions. Use both the programme page and your appointment instructions. A permitted aid for one certification does not automatically apply to another, even when both use OnVUE.
Before booking, check delivery availability, acceptable identification, appointment language, time zone and accommodations. A passed technical test does not resolve a name mismatch or approve an item on your desk. Keep those administrative checks separate from device compatibility.
Verify the current technical baseline
The general page checked on 25 October 2026 lists Windows 10 or macOS 14 or higher, a working webcam, microphone and speaker, one display and a stable connection of at least 6 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload. It also requires the ability to close other applications; headphones and headsets are not part of its standard allowance.
These dated specifications are a starting point, not permission to ignore the detailed technical document or programme rules. Check operating-system restrictions, application permissions and network suitability directly. Run the official system test using the exact computer, connection and location you intend to use.
Prepare camera, audio and displays
The technical document specifies a forward-facing camera at eye level showing head and shoulders, with at least 640 by 480 resolution at 10 frames per second. It excludes using a mobile phone as the webcam for exam delivery. Check the latest document before choosing equipment, since requirements can change.
Disconnect additional displays as required and inspect docking arrangements. Close communication or recording applications that may hold the camera or microphone. On a managed device, ask the administrator about restrictions rather than removing security controls. Use another approved device or a test centre if compatibility cannot be established.
Distinguish digital and physical whiteboards
OnVUE provides information and a practice tool for its digital whiteboard, but availability and permitted aids must be confirmed for the programme. Microsoft’s OnVUE page explicitly says its digital whiteboard does not permit a physical whiteboard or writing materials. Do not generalise that statement into a promise about every other provider’s interface.
For PSI or another platform, consult the specific exam’s candidate guide and allowances. A physical board, paper or pen is allowed only when the applicable rules say so. If an accommodation is needed, obtain it through the official process rather than improvising at check-in.
Rehearse using the approved tool
Use Pearson’s whiteboard practice resource to draw a simple dependency diagram, record a calculation and edit a note. Practise opening and closing it without losing your place. Pearson states that entered work remains when the whiteboard is closed, but a connectivity loss clears it.
Do not plan to import prepared notes or retain exam-related whiteboard content after testing. The practical goal is familiarity with the available interface. If a calculation aid is also provided, check its rules separately; whiteboard availability does not authorise an external application.
Follow conduct and support instructions
Prepare a private, compliant workspace and prevent interruptions. During the appointment, follow the rules about remaining visible, communicating, breaks and permitted items. Ordinary work habits such as reading aloud, reaching for a phone or using another application may conflict with the examination’s conditions.
If something fails, use the approved proctor or support route and follow instructions. Keep a non-confidential record of the appointment reference, time and error for any later review. Do not record questions. Review current requirements again after a meaningful device or network change and before the actual appointment.
