Start with the programme, appointment and allowed delivery route
Open your examination programme’s Pearson VUE page and the appointment confirmation. Check the delivery method, scheduled time, time zone, booking name and identification requirements. A date written in your calendar is not enough: a time-zone mistake or a name mismatch can stop you testing even when the computer works.
OnVUE is a delivery system used by different programmes, and the programme can set additional rules. Read its instructions for breaks, permitted aids, language, accommodations and check-in. Do not borrow an exception from a friend taking another exam. If an accommodation is needed, complete the approval process before the appointment as directed.
Use the exact computer, network and location you will test with
Run the official system test before booking where required, using the same computer and internet connection you intend to use for the appointment. A successful test on a different laptop or office network says little about your home setup. Repeat the test after a meaningful change such as a new device, operating-system update or network move.
Pearson’s general requirements call for a supported operating system, working camera and microphone, suitable speakers, one permitted display and compatible internet access. Its current page gives specific technical thresholds; read these before choosing a device. A managed work computer may block the required application or permissions even if its hardware looks adequate.
For a personal computer, finish pending updates in advance and restart before testing. Connect reliable power. Close other applications and confirm that communication or recording tools are no longer using the camera. Do not disable employer protections, alter a managed firewall or remove security software to force compatibility; use an approved alternative device or delivery route.
Check displays, camera and microphone before check-in
Check the physical display arrangement as well as the desktop settings. A screen that is switched off may still be connected. Follow the programme’s display rules and disconnect external displays or docking equipment when required. Keep the arrangement unchanged between the system test and appointment.
If the system test cannot access the camera or microphone, identify whether another application is using it and whether the operating system has granted the necessary permission. On Windows, camera and microphone controls are under Settings and Privacy & security; on macOS, use System Settings and Privacy & Security. Menu names can vary by version. Grant access only to the official application and only as instructed.
Confirm that the preview is clear, your face can remain visible and the lighting is stable. If permission is controlled by an administrator or the same official test keeps failing, stop treating the appointment as a troubleshooting experiment and contact support or choose an authorised alternative.
Prepare the desk, room and identification
Clear the workspace in accordance with the programme’s rules, including materials within reach rather than only objects directly in front of the computer. Arrange a private space where nobody will enter or view your screen. Cover or remove room materials only as instructed, and prepare for the required room inspection.
Compare the identification itself with the booking name, not just with an email address. Check that the document is valid and accepted for your country and programme. Do not assume a phone photograph or digital copy is acceptable. If you are unsure, resolve the issue through the official support route before test day.
Check permitted beverages, comfort aids and medical or accessibility arrangements in advance. An item being reasonable for everyday work does not automatically make it permitted in an examination. During the appointment, follow the rules and the proctor’s authorised instructions.
Make an appointment-day checklist
Use a short sequence: verify appointment and time zone; restart; connect power; check the permitted display arrangement; close unrelated applications; confirm the room and ID are ready; launch through the official booking route at the programme’s stated check-in time. Keep an ordinary appointment reference available through the permitted means.
If an error appears, note the stage, time and non-confidential message. Use the provider’s approved help route; do not record examination questions or open unrelated tools during an active session. Ask for a case number and the next steps if you cannot proceed. A disrupted appointment does not automatically guarantee a refund, retake or replacement voucher.
When a test centre is a better choice
A test centre can be the more practical option if your only computer is locked down by an employer, your connection is unreliable, or you cannot secure a private room. Compare travel and appointment availability with those constraints before paying. Remote delivery is convenient only when the actual conditions are workable.
Neither a successful system test nor a preparation service guarantees that every appointment will run without interruption. The purpose of this checklist is to identify controllable risks early and choose a delivery route that meets the programme’s requirements.
