Translate the Level 1 names carefully

Older articles use MuleSoft Certified Developer Level 1, Platform Architect Level 1 and Integration Architect Level 1. Salesforce now presents its MuleSoft credentials through the current Trailhead catalogue, including Developer, Platform Architect and Platform Integration Architect. Confirm the exact current guide instead of assuming the old Level 1 wording remains the booking title.

Developer work concerns building and operating APIs and integrations. Platform architecture concerns the organisation’s Anypoint Platform strategy. Integration architecture concerns translating functional and non-functional requirements into interfaces and implementations. Their overlap does not remove the different decision scope.

Developer preparation: implement a complete transaction

Use a permitted training integration that accepts an order and retrieves availability from a mock inventory service. Define the request, response and error contract before implementation. Validate inputs, transform data explicitly and keep credentials out of source code.

Test a successful order, unavailable inventory, invalid input and downstream timeout. Record the expected result for each. The point is not to make one happy-path call succeed; it is to understand how the integration behaves when a dependency is slow, unavailable or returns unexpected data.

Developer preparation: make behaviour observable

Add useful correlation information so that one transaction can be traced through the training flow. Record enough context for support while avoiding sensitive payloads. Explain which events should be logged and who should see them.

Practise a controlled deployment and rollback. Verify that the running version matches the intended artefact and configuration. Compare your practical coverage with the current Developer outline, then close specific gaps. A tutorial completed by following instructions is a starting point rather than proof of independent production capability.

Platform Architect preparation: set organisational direction

For the platform path, step back from the individual flow. Define deployment boundaries, environment strategy, identity, governance, availability and operational ownership for several integration teams. State assumptions about scale, isolation and regulatory constraints rather than designing for an unspecified enterprise.

Compare two platform arrangements and explain the consequences for cost, team autonomy and recovery. Identify who can publish shared assets and how standards are enforced. A platform strategy should allow teams to deliver safely without requiring every decision to pass through an overloaded central gate.

Integration Architect preparation: justify interfaces and reliability

For the integration-architecture path, examine synchronous and asynchronous options for the order case. Discuss latency, consistency, retries, duplicate handling and failure recovery. Write down what consumers can rely on and how a change will be introduced without surprising them.

If an order is accepted but the response is lost, determine whether a retry creates a duplicate. Propose an explicit approach and test it in a permitted environment. This illustrates why architecture is more than arranging API boxes: it defines behaviour under ordinary failure conditions.

Choose a career sequence from demonstrated responsibility

A developer moving toward architecture should build evidence beyond code: interface decisions, non-functional requirements, deployment trade-offs and stakeholder communication. A platform leader should still understand implementation constraints well enough to evaluate whether the strategy works for delivery teams.

Use the current individual guides to verify prerequisites, examination arrangements and maintenance. Do not buy every route because the names form an apparent ladder. Select the one closest to your next responsibility, produce a defensible work sample and revisit the broader pathway when you have evidence that the next credential adds value.
