Treat CFCC as an expertise pathway
Certified Forensic Claims Consultant is an AACE expertise-level credential for experienced claims professionals. Start with the current application and examination guide, including its experience, education, recommendations and work-product requirements. A preparation course does not establish eligibility or replace the professional judgement developed through relevant work.
Build an evidence register that identifies each required item, its owner and any confidentiality restriction. Resolve uncertain eligibility directly with AACE. Keep the individual credential separate from a court’s decision to accept expert evidence in a particular matter; certification does not automatically settle that question.
Understand the role of open-book assessment
AACE lists CFCC among its open-book examinations, and the official guide describes written essay assignments. Open-book permission is bounded by the current approved-resource rules. Check precisely which materials, format and number are allowed in your delivery setting rather than assuming unrestricted internet or notes.
Choose references you know how to navigate. During practice, decide the analytical approach before consulting a source. If every paragraph requires a search, the main problem may be an unfamiliar method rather than a missing bookmark. The aim is accurate and reasoned application under the stated conditions.
Separate entitlement, causation and quantum
Use a fictional delayed equipment installation. Prepare a chronology from the baseline schedule, change instructions, delivery records and progress updates. Identify the contract questions requiring authoritative interpretation and the factual questions that the available records can address.
Analyse whether the event caused the claimed effect before calculating an amount. A project finishing late does not establish that every delay arose from the same event or that every additional cost is recoverable. State the assumptions and missing evidence rather than forcing a confident conclusion from incomplete records.
Select a method that fits the records
For delay analysis, examine the available schedules, their reliability, update dates and the timing of the events. Explain why a proposed approach is appropriate to the evidence and what limitations it carries. For productivity analysis, consider whether the comparison periods are sufficiently comparable and whether other factors could explain the difference.
Avoid presenting a method’s familiar name as proof of validity. A defensible analysis exposes its inputs and explains what would change the result. In a synthetic case, alter one record or assumption and assess how sensitive the conclusion is to that change.
Write an essay that answers the instruction
Use a simple structure: identify the issue, state the relevant principle, apply it to the supplied facts, explain limitations and give a reasoned conclusion. This is a suggested writing method, not an official marking formula. Address the requested decision before exploring peripheral technical details.
For the installation case, distinguish established facts from allegations and assumptions. Cite the record supporting a material statement in your practice report. Include an alternative interpretation when the evidence warrants it, then explain why it is stronger, weaker or unresolved. Precision is more useful than an essay padded with every claims term you know.
Rehearse independent review and professional conduct
Have a knowledgeable peer challenge the chronology, calculations and inference. Ask them to identify any unsupported leap between an event and the claimed consequence. Recalculate an amount independently and verify that the report uses consistent dates and units.
Use fabricated or properly sanitised records for preparation, preserving any confidentiality obligations. Review the current ethics and delivery rules and do not use recalled live examination questions. CFCC preparation is valuable when it strengthens impartial analysis and clear explanation; neither open-book access nor a polished essay template guarantees an outcome.
